HOLIDAY
BIBLE CLUB REPORT
The
Holiday Bible Club has yet again proved to be a great time for both the
children and the adults! Our theme this year was SHOWSTOPPERS, which gave
a theatrical angle to the focus of our week.
On Tuesday we found out about Creation and centred particularly on the
fall of men and women, and the impact of sin in our lives.
On Wednesday we moved on to look at the life of David and how he fitted
in to the big picture of the Bible.
On Thursday we discovered all about Daniel and how God looked after and
protected him when he was thrown into the lion's den.
Finally on Friday we learned about life of Jesus, and why He came into
the world. Alongside these important must know stories we filled out time
with lots of songs, crafts and fun. These included:
* A Masquerade Mask.
* A Megaphone
* A Star Award
* A Theatre Scene of David and Goliath
The children also
earnestly learnt the week's memory verse, which was taken from 2 Timothy
Chapter 1 v 9.

HARVEST SUPPER TALK!
Trevor Smetham spoke to us and mentioned "Arthur Stace"
the man who wrote 'eternity' in chalk all round the streets of Sydney.
Here is a little about him (also available in the current issue of Signpost.)....
'Arthur Stace was a loser, a no-hoper, an alcoholic and completely
illiterate. He lived in the streets of Sydney, regarded by many who saw
him as a lost cause.
One
Sunday night in 1932 he entered St Barnabas' Anglican Church onBroadway,
Sydney, and heard the Reverend T. C. Hammond preach thegospel of Jesus
Christ. The Banner of Truth
has published a paperback biography of T. C. Hammond. Arthur was convicted
by the Spirit of God. He left the church, crossed the road, and sat under
a tree in Victoria Park where he committed his life to Jesus Christ. He
had become a new creation.
Later that year
he was at the Burton Street Baptist Tabernacle on the corner of Palmer
Street, Darlinghurst when he heard the evangelist John G Ridley preaching.
In his urgent, commanding voice, John Ridley cried, "Eternity! Eternity!
Oh, that this word could be emblazoned across the streets of Sydney!"
Arthur Stace the
little man who still could not read or write left that church, took some
yellow chalk, bent down and wrote one word on the footpath. And throughout
the night for the next 40 years, while Sydney slept, Arthur would take
his chalk and write in immaculate copperplate handwriting the word "eternity"
on footpaths, entrances to the train station, and anywhere else he thought
it would catch people's attention.
Sydneysiders would
alight from their commuter trains of a morning and see this word as they
walked to work, and would make them think about the most important decision
they could ever make!'
HARVEST SUPPER PICTURES
Trevor Smetham spoke at our Harvest Supper which was attended by about
45 people. Below are a number of photos from the evening, which was enjoyed
by all. More pictures are available in our bi-monthly news letter "The
Signpost. Make sure you pick up a copy this Sunday (28th September)

IT'S HARVEST TIME!
Below are a couple of photos taken from our harvest display.

Today (Saturday) a team of helpers have opened up the church between
10 and 12 noon so people could bring in their harvest gifts. The team
would like to thank all those who brought fresh and tinned food along
and we thank God for all the food He provides for us every year.
HOLIDAY BIBLE CLUB REPORT 2008

What can you do when you find yourself with sixty bandannas, a nonswimming
eye patched captain and a blow up shark with handles? Have a Landlubbers
Holiday Bible Club of course!!!!!
Last week saw West Worthing Evangelical Church being turned into a pirate
ship marooned on a desert island and we all became Landlubbers! The idea
being to learn more about the life of the Apostle Paul and his missionary
journeys around the Mediterranean. Over the course of the week we learnt
how Saul became Paul; how he trusted God even when thrown in to jail and
when shipwrecked; how he cared for others and with the help of the Holy
Spirit helped to heal some of them.
Sixty children joined us for the journey which also included songs, quizzes,
memory verses and making lots of pirate crafts including a puppet pirate;
a parrot; a lighthouse and a shipwreck scene.
We had a great deal of fun and it was a joy to see so many smiling faces
each morning and throughout the two hours.
We thank God for the sunny weather, for keeping the children safe, and
for the helpers who took part.

CHRISTMAS SERVICES ON THE 16th!
Below are some photos of the services that took place on the 16th
December. Rev. Dennis Read lead both services and the children also took
part in the morning. In both morning and evening services we had the added
bonus of a small orchestra to accompany the piano/organ.

CPO
50th ANNIVERSARY
On the 7th September around 80 people attended the CPO
50th Anniversary service at our church. CPO has been supplying Christian
literature, including posters, tracts and leaflets to the Christian community
since 1957
CHURCH ANNIVERSARY 2007
On
Sunday we celebrated the churches 107th Anniversary. The speaker for the
Celebration services was Richard Underwood, the General Secretary of FIEC.
Both morning and evening services we looked at Acts Chapter 2. The morning
sermon had the title "Don't Underestimate Jesus" (concentrating
on Acts 2 v 14-36) and the evening sermon had the title"The Church
That Jesus built" (this time concentrating on Acts 2 v 36 - 47).
We had a wonderful time of ministry and thank both Richard and Pippa for
coming down to our church.
We
thank God for His faithfulness to us as a church over the past 107 years
and we look forward to the future seeking God's guidance all the way.
MISSIONARY
WEEKEND 2007
The missionary weekend went very well, and we had about 80 to 100 different
people coming over the entire weekend.

Dr. John Bendor-Samuel kept us all up to date with information about Wycliffe
and how we can effectively pray for different aspects of the work.
HOLIDAY BIBLE CLUB 2007

The Holiday Bible Club week is going really well, many children and
helpers have turned up each day. Above you can see the children singing
one of the many songs they learnt over the Holiday Bible Club week. The
song they are singing in the photo was called "The Pyramid Rock!"
We've had 44 children attend so far and everyone seems to be having a
wondeful time.
HOLIDAY BIBLE CLUB INFORMATION - WHAT IS PYRAMID ROCK?
Pyramid Rock is a five-day childens holiday club that focuses
on the story, character and experiences of Joseph. It is packed with creative
teaching, games, songs, prayers, craft, Bible reading and small-group
ideas, along with a drama script for each day. Pyramid Rock provides a
mixture of small-group activities and up-front presentation. It is for
children aged between 5 and 11.
Travel up the Nile, listen to Red Hot News, open the scrolls in a Pyramid
Group and encounter Joseph who trusted God despite everything.
Joseph had a key role in God's BIG plan - children will explore the story
and discover some key truths about God. The flexible programme provides
everything you need to run a holiday club, contains drama, craft, games,
Bible stories, creative prayer, Bible discussion - oodles of fun with
the serious purpose of helping children meet the living God!
There
is also help and guidelines on running a holiday club for anyone who is
unsure how to begin.
MOTHERS
DAY
We had a great Mothers Day Service on the 18th March. Rev. Dennis Read
led the service, and was assisted by the Adventurers and Explorers groups
who sang a mothers day song and played the bell plates. During their club
time the children painted vases which were then filled with flowers and
after the service, given to their
mums.
